Rarely does a client issue a mandate as powerful as, “Help us create an event to show the world our brand’s resilience.” This was precisely the opportunity presented to Phase 3 Productions for Sandals Resorts International’s “Back to Jamaica” event.
Following the devastation of Hurricane Melissa to six Sandals and Beaches properties, the brand’s mission was clear: demonstrate Jamaica’s unwavering spirit. Hosted at the newly opened Sandals Dunn’s River, the event aimed to provide over 400 travel agents with an immersive experience proving that Jamaica—and Sandals—was open for business and standing strong.
The Challenge
Tasked with executing the Business Session and Town Hall elements of this three-part series, Phase 3 Productions faced a multifaceted challenge on a tight deadline:
- Create a flawless, immersive experience for 400+ guests within a 100′ x 30′ space.
- Project an atmosphere of confidence, luxury, and stability through every technical detail.
- Ensure seamless execution under the scrutiny of industry leaders.
The Execution: Where Passion Meets Precision
As the full-service technical production provider, our philosophy guided every decision: Passion Meets Precision. We crafted an experience to be seen, felt, and heard—both in person and virtually.
- Visual Storytelling: A pristine 24’ x 10’ LED wall, built with Absen PL 4.8mm panels and driven by an Aquilon RS1 system, served as our dynamic canvas. It showcased compelling graphics, videos, and live feeds to tell the definitive story: “We are Back.”
- Immersive Audio: The visual narrative was powered by a crystal-clear audio environment. A JBL SRX906 line array system with SRX915SF subwoofers delivered full-range reinforcement. Mixing was handled on a Yamaha DM7c console with RIO1608-D2 stageboxes, supported by 10 channels of Shure ULXD wireless microphones. Dante networking ensured seamless system integration.
- Global Broadcast: To extend the message of resilience worldwide, we deployed our portable Bigfoot Fly Pack system. It was equipped with three Sony HXC-100R camera chains (featuring Fujinon 20x and Canon 40x lenses) and a Canon N500 PTZ camera for comprehensive coverage. Our StarLink satellite system provided the critical, reliable uplink for the client’s live stream.
- Critical Communications: Flawless coordination was ensured by an RTS intercom system. An RTS OMS Omneo main station, paired with ROAMEO wireless beltpacks, created a unified network. Utilizing Dante and triaxial camera cables, the system allowed the A1 to manage cues directly from the console while maintaining full mixing focus.
- Ambient Lighting & Power: A strategic lighting design using Chauvet R3x and R2x fixtures, controlled by a ChamSys MagicQ MQ70 console, provided a elegant morning wash. The entire production was powered by an ultra-silent 70kVA generator, ensuring uninterrupted operation.
- Collaborative Partnerships: To meet the demanding timeline, we partnered with trusted vendors who supplied tenting, draping, and climate control for the expansive venue.
The Result
Managing a complex, multi-departmental production to meet high-stakes client objectives is always a challenge. Through unwavering collaboration, deep expertise, and the dedicated effort of our 30-person team, the “Back to Jamaica” event was delivered with precision and impact. The production not only achieved its goal of showcasing resilience but also reinforced the indispensable value of teamwork, leaving us with invaluable insights for the future.
The day was a resounding success. The technology vanished into the background, as all great productions should, allowing the powerful message of renewal and community to take center stage. Travel advisors left not just impressed by the restored properties, but by the confidence and precision of the entire experience.
